The Route

The Dom Tower

Utrecht’s Ultimate Icon

Standing tall over the city, the Dom Tower is Utrecht’s most famous landmark. From the water, you get a killer view of this medieval masterpiece, rising above the charming canals and historic townhouses.

Oudegracht

Underground World The Wharf Cellars

Unlike anything else in the world, Utrecht’s wharf cellars are where history meets modern vibes. Once used for storage, they’re now home to buzzing cafés, bars, and cool indie shops. Floating past, you’ll see locals chilling by the water, soaking up the city’s energy.

Oudaen Castle

A Floating Medieval Fortress

This badass 13th-century castle now brews its own beer. You’ll float right past its stone walls, soaking in the history, just imagine knights and merchants once pulling up in their boats right here.

Zocherpark

From City Wall to City Park

Zocherpark is a peaceful green space along the canal, where Utrecht’s city wall once stood. In the 19th century, the city walls became obsolete, making way for this beautiful park. Today, it's a favorite spot for joggers, walkers, and anyone looking to relax in nature.

The Wittevrouwenbrug

From City Gate to Busy Freight Route

Until the 19th century, the city walls only allowed access at a few points, one of which was near the Wittevrouwenbrug gate. Until 1930, a tram ran over the bridge, and today, it serves as one of the main routes for freight traffic into the city.

Sonnenborch

From Fortress to Stargazing Spot

Sonnenborgh is a former fort turned observatory. It’s also the birthplace of the Dutch weather institute, KNMI. Today, you can visit to gaze at the stars through telescopes and explore the history of weather forecasting.

The Culture Boat

The City’s Only Floating Coffeeshop

This 17th-century lock is where boats enter the heart of Utrecht. It’s not just a piece of history, it’s a working waterway that still controls the flow of boats, just like it did centuries ago.

De Winkel van Sinkel

Step Back in Time at Winkel van Sinkel

The famous Winkel van Sinkel. Once the first department store in the Netherlands, it sold everything from clothes to stuffed crocodiles! Today, it’s a café and event venue. Those massive statues? They were so heavy, they were shipped from England by boat.

Park Lepelenburg

The Heart of Relaxation

This park is a beloved spot for locals in Utrecht to unwind and enjoy some downtime. During the summer months, it’s especially lively, with live music performances and students lounging on the grass, enjoying picnics and good company.

Wolvenplein

From Prison to Creative Hub

The Wolvenplein Penitentiary is known locally as "the Old Women's Prison," it remained in operation until 2014. With crime rates declining, the former prison has been repurposed into a space for small businesses, including a themed escape room.

The Stadsschouwburg

A Historic Theater with a Modern Twist

Construction started in 1937 but wasn’t completed until after World War II. During the war, it was used for mass events to prevent demolition. In 1995, a glass dome was added to the original theater tower, giving it a modern touch.

The Weerdsluis

Gateway to the City

This 17th-century lock is where boats enter the heart of Utrecht. It’s not just a piece of history—it’s a working waterway that still controls the flow of boats, just like it did centuries ago.
